Siřejovice (German Schirschowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers southeast of Lovosice on the D8 motorway and belongs to the Okres Litoměřice .

geography

The village is located on the Dubina table, a southern foothill of the Bohemian Central Mountains above the Eger river plain . To the east rises the 245 m high Humenský vrch ( Hahnberg ), also called Kohoutov or Humberk , in front of which the motorway route D8 / European route 55 passes. The next exit Lovosice-východ is one and a half kilometers to the north. Immediately on the motorway, on a wooded knoll in front of the Humenský vrch, are the remains of the Windsor hunting lodge. State road 247 between Radovesice and Lovosice runs through Siřejovice .

Neighboring towns are Lukavec in the northeast, Keblice in the east, Zadní Ves, Vrbičany and Káčov in the southeast, Úpohlavy in the southwest, Želechovice in the west and Čížkovice and Sulejovice in the northwest.

history

Skirewici was first mentioned in 1227 in a document from the monastery of St. George in Prague . The subsequent owners were the Kaplirz and von Vchynice families in the 14th century . In 1400 Ješkov von Vchynice sold the village to Johann von Wartenberg , who owed the purchase price. This created a long-running feud between the two houses. In 1430 Johann Kaplirz de Sulewicz received the village from Emperor Sihismund as a pawn. After the Battle of the White Mountain , Adam Kaplirz de Sulewicz's fief was withdrawn and Siřejovice was sold to Wolf Illburg von Vřesovice in 1623. Then the monastery of St. George was again the owner of Siřejovice and a share acquired Sigismund Brozanský of Vřesovice. The existence of the windmill east of the village has been documented since 1833.

After the abolition of patrimonial Siřejovice became an independent municipality in 1848. The subsequent owners of the goods included u. a. Franz Preidl Edler von Hassenbrunn and Emanuel Karsch. In 1870, the miller Kunze sold the Dutch windmill to the Tschinkel brothers, who had the mill converted into a neo-Gothic pleasure palace, which was given the name Windsor. In 1886 the castle was auctioned and remained uninhabited even after several changes of ownership. During the First World War, tramps moved into the neglected walls. Between 1929 and 1930 a pottery manufacturer still lived on Windsor and since then the romantic building, which has now fallen into ruin and overgrown, has been visited by a number of painters and tourists.

In the course of the construction of the motorway, the Strakov Chapel , which originally stood on the old connecting road to Teplitz and Dresden , was moved to Humenský vrch.
