geography

The village is located to the left of the Elbe on the northern edge of the Travčický les forest. The Eger runs to the west and the Elbe to the east . The Mrchový kopec (211 m) rises south of the military training area in Travčický les.

Neighboring towns are Počaply in the north, Křešice in the northeast, Nučničky in the east, Libotenice in the southeast, Oleško in the south, Hrdly and Bohušovice nad Ohří in the southwest, Terezín in the west and České Kopisty in the northwest.

history

Travčice was first mentioned in a document in 1239. The village belonging to the Benedictine Abbey of Breunau was originally located on the Eger.

Because of the construction of the fortress in Theresienstadt , the place was evacuated in 1782 and rebuilt to the southeast. In 1800 the regular cross-shaped village consisted of 20 houses, the center of which was the Trinity Church. At the same time, the Zádušníky settlement was built on the Počaply parish, on which the residents of the evacuated place also built new houses. At the same time, as compensation for their lost property, the residents were given plots of land in the Elbe dunes to be forested. This resulted in the Trabschitz forest, which, because of the sandy soils, consists mainly of undemanding trees such as pines and robinia. The residents lived from agriculture, in which vegetable growing dominated. By 1880 the population grew to 420, who lived in 70 houses. The parish and school location was Počaply . In 1930 the village had 500 mostly Czech residents and consisted of almost 100 houses. In the course of the 20th century, Zádušníky and Travčice grew into one unit. During the First World War, a prisoner-of-war camp was established in the Trabschitz Forest, which was later converted into a military area.

After the Second World War, a larger sand pit was built on the southern outskirts, in which greenhouses for growing vegetables were built after the dismantling stopped. During this time, the village was also given a cultural center, which, thanks to its large hall, has a regional significance.
