history

Vrbice was first mentioned in a document in 1319 and belonged to the Litoměřice diocese until 1331 . Subsequently, the village was part of the Roudnice nad Labem estate and a fortress was established in the 14th century. In 1515 the city of Leitmeritz acquired the village, in 1620 it sold it to the district chief Georg Wilhelm Sezyma von Úštěk. His goods were confiscated after the Battle of White Mountain and Vrbice was handed over to the St. Kliment Jesuit College in Prague, which assigned him to his rule in Liběšice . After the Thirty Years War, in which the place was completely destroyed, the Jesuits brought German settlers to rebuild the desert village. In 1773 the order was canceled. In 1830 Wrbitz had 287 inhabitants. In 1838 František Lobkowitz bought the place. By 1900 the population had grown to 457 people who lived primarily from hop growing and other agriculture. The vicarage was Wettel, which was also the school location until the school was built in 1875. In 1919 a second - Czech - school was established in the village.

After the Second World War, the wetlands on the Obrtka were meliorated and freed of their natural vegetation for large-scale farming. A pig breeding facility was built near the Záhorecký Mlýn.
