history
Bernan was first mentioned in a document in 1057 when Duke Spytihněv II founded the collegiate monastery of St. Stephen in Litoměřice . In 1226, Ottokar I Přemysl donated the villages of Bernnen and Pelesch to the Doksany monastery . During the Hussite Wars , the monastic rule was extinguished and in 1436 the town of Litoměřice bought the place.
In 1461 Brňany was flooded when the Eger floods and the southern neighboring village of Pelesch was torn away by the floods. In 1501 the Eger flooded the whole village again. In 1551 the Doksany monastery bought back the village of Brňany. In the Thirty Years War the place was partially burned down.
In the course of the Josephinian reforms, Brňany fell to the religious fund in 1782 and was acquired by Colonel Jakob Wimmer, who worked on the nearby Theresienstadt fortress . Wimmer had a castle built for himself on the Eger. In 1804 the barons Lexa von Aehrenthal acquired the place. In 1830 238 people lived in the village. After the abolition of patrimonial Brňany became an independent municipality in 1848. In 1880 the population had increased to 400; almost all of the inhabitants belonged to the Czech ethnic group. The castle remained in the possession of Lexa von Aehrenthal until 1918. The school location was the neighboring Bauschowitz until the village school was built in 1924 . In 1948 the castle was nationalized. Around 1950 the number of residents increased to 550.
