Vlastislav (German Watislaw ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located in Northern Bohemia and belongs to the Leitmeritz district in the Outer Region .
geography
The place is 284 m above sea level. M. in the valley of the Modla ( Model ) in the Bohemian Central Mountains . It is located 3 km northwest of the town of Třebenice and is dominated by the striking keep of the Skalka Castle . At the edge of the wide valley rise the cones of the mountains, of which the Košťál , Oltářík and Ostrý bear the remains of castles. To the northeast, the neighboring village of Sutom joins the locality Skalka ( Skalken ) , in the southeast Dřinek and Teplá and in the southwest Chrastná .
history
Archaeological finds show that the area was first settled in the Paleolithic . Agriculture has been practiced in the fertile valley since the Neolithic Age .
Since 400 BC Celtic settlers of the Latène culture lived here . The area was settled by Slavs around the 6th century .
The Chronica Boemorum des Cosmas of Prague tells of the legendary Lutschanen prince Vlastislav , also Vladislav , who had a castle built in the 9th century. This was located north of Vlastislav on the entrenchments, and its foundation walls were found during archaeological excavations.
The first written mention of Vlastislav comes from the year 1184. From the scattered settlement a regular village center developed around the 13th century.
At the beginning of the 14th century, the Skalka Castle was built on a basalt rock west of the village , which was destroyed by the Swedes during the Thirty Years War in 1639. At the end of the 17th century , Antonio della Porta built a baroque palace below the ruins, which was followed by an estate.
In 1792 a chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was built north of the village on the Modla. One of the sources of the Modla rises below the chapel, which was formerly known for Pentecost pilgrimages. This is why the model meadow is occasionally cited as the source of the Modla. The chapel surrounded by old linden trees inspired Svatopluk Čech , who wrote parts of his work In the shadow of the linden tree in Skalken Castle .
The inhabitants lived mainly from agriculture. In addition to agriculture, fruit growing also played a major role in the village due to its location in the "garden of Bohemia". Cattle was raised on the Skalken estate. Even today there is a cattle barn in Skalka. The estate's historic farm buildings are in a state of disrepair. Opposite is a property belonging to the Czech fire service administration.
In 2001 the municipality acquired the castle and began a gradual renovation in 2002. The 2nd floor is used for exhibitions on local history and as a gallery.
