Úpohlavy (German Opolau ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic .
geography
It is 175 m above sea level. M. four kilometers southeast of the town of Třebenice in the Bohemian Central Mountains and belongs to the Okres Litoměřice . The village on the Lovosice - Louny railway line is located on the right side of a bend in the Modla (Model) on the Hasenburger Tafel.
history
Urn finds indicate an early settlement.
Chodovlice was first mentioned as Glupoglavi in 1227 in a property register of the St. George Monastery in Prague .
Opolau belonged to the Tschischkowitz rule from the 18th century until the replacement of patrimonial rule . In 1880 a one-class school opened in the village, until then the children had been to Trebnitz . The two-class school operation began in 1911.
Attractions
The baroque Trinity Chapel with a bell tower stands on the village square . A sundial is attached to the chapel, which is illuminated in the dark. There is also a memorial to those who died in the First World War in Úpohlavy .
Two kilometers west of the village, halfway upstream to Chodovlice , lies the meadow mill (Lucký mlýn) on the Modla. The mill, surrounded by old trees, is one of the few remaining watermills on the river. The manorial mill of Zajíc von Hasenburg was sold to Jan Šašek in 1695 and has been owned by the Šašek family ever since. The historical building ensemble was renovated around 2000.
