Agence Française de Lutte contre le Dopage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Agence Française de Lutte contre le Dopage (AFLD) (from the French: "Agency for the fight against doping", originally Conseil de Prevention et de Lutte contre le Dopage ) is the French anti-doping agency based in Paris .

organization

The AFLD is a national organization of the international non-governmental organization World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) founded in 2006 . President of the AFLD is Dominique Laurent , who took over from Pierre Bordry on September 30, 2010 .

The AFLD controls are carried out by the Laboratoire National de Dépistage du Dopage (LNDD) (“National Laboratory for the Detection of Doping”). It was founded in 1966 due to a new French law against the use of stimulants in sport and has been located in Châtenay-Malabry since 1989 . Around 10,000 analyzes were carried out in 2009.

Evidence of EPO

In 2000, the LNDD developed a method for the detection of erythropoietin in urine. This was used, among other things, to retrospectively analyze samples from cyclists in the 1999 Tour de France . According to media reports, some athletes tested positive, including Lance Armstrong , without sanctions being issued. Armstrong himself as well as many experts and cycling officials accused the AFLD of massive deficiencies in the processing of the samples and in dealing with the confidentiality of the driver's data and spoke of a "witch hunt".

The new procedure developed by the World Anti-Doping Agency ( WADA ) for the exemption of prohibited substances for therapeutic healing (TUE) is not accepted by the AFLD.

Tour de France

In June 2010, Bordry criticized the doping controls at the Tour de France . They are predictable and inefficient. For this he was sharply attacked by the President of the World Cycling Federation UCI Pat McQuaid . He also called for Bordry's replacement. As a consequence, the doping tests at the Tour de France 2010 will be monitored by independent observers from WADA. A request from AFLD to carry out its own tests was rejected by WADA.
