The Lovosice – Libochovice railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated by the Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG) as a state-guaranteed local railway . It runs from Lovosice ( Lobositz ) via Čížkovice ( Tschischkowitz ) to Libochovice .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

Prehistory and construction

The Lobositz – Libochowitz local railway was built on the initiative of the Tschinkel brothers' sugar factories in Lobositz, the Schwarzenberg in Sullowitz and Herberstein in Libochowitz. The Austrian Local Railway Company (ÖLEG) presented a first project for the line in March 1880. However, the concession for the new local railway was granted to the StEG on September 21, 1881.

The Prague construction company Kruliš and Zelenka took over the construction work and completed the local railway in one year of construction. The line was opened on November 22, 1882. The railway's small depot was in Lobositz.

Route extensions

On November 19, 1898, the Brüx-Lobositzer connecting railway to Obernitz (today: Obrnice), branching off in Tschischkowitz , was opened. The route still exists, but has not been used as scheduled since December 2007.

Libochovice was from June 12, 1907 the end point of the local railway Libochowitz-Jenschowitz from Vraňany . The last insignificant passenger train traffic on this route was stopped on December 10, 2006.

business

Čížkovice Railway Station (2006)

The operation of the local railway Lobositz – Libochowitz was initially carried out by the Staats-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft StEG, until it was nationalized in 1909. From then on it was operated by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB).

After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the line was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD.

After the Sudetenland was connected to Germany in autumn 1938, the Lobositz – Tschischkowitz section in the Sudetenland came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn and was operated by the Reichsbahndirektion Dresden . After 1945 the entire route came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

The 2006/2007 timetable recorded nine pairs of passenger trains on working days, which ran every two hours. Today no major transport services are provided in freight transport. The most important freight customer on the route today is the cement factory in Čížkovice ( Cementárna Čížkovice , today: Lafarge Cement ), which has its own connecting railway .

The route operator SŽDC is planning a comprehensive modernization of the route from September 2017. In addition to the track systems, the control and safety technology, the crossings and the operating points were completely rebuilt and renewed. When the work is completed at the end of October 2019, the line speed will be 100 km / h throughout.

Vehicle use

StEG IVc (kkStB 195)

For the local railway Lobositz – Libochowitz, the StEG procured triple-coupled tank locomotives of the IVc series , which were later classified as series 195 by the kkStB (ČSD 300.4).

Among other things, the class 810 multiple units (ČSD class M 152.0), which had been in service from the end of the 1970s, were used in passenger train traffic .

For several years now, only class 814 (RegioNova) railcars have been used, some of which run as continuous trains from Ceska Lipa via Louny to Postoloprty.
