The Louny – Libochovice railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , originally built by the Laun – Libochowitz (Czech: Místní dráha Louny – Libochovice ) local railway as a state-guaranteed local railway . It runs in northern Bohemia from Louny ( Laun ) to Libochovice ( Libochowitz ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

Libochovice město station (2007)

On March 5, 1901, the concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local railway from the Laun station on the Prague – Brüx – Moldau state railway to Libochowitz for connection to the Lobositz – Libochowitz local railway was granted to the privileged Austro-Hungarian state railway company . The line was opened on May 10, 1902. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the Laun – Libochowitz local railway .

In 1912, the local railway timetable showed six mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains, some of which were connected to and from Jenschowitz (today: Vraňany). They needed between 59 and 68 minutes for the 21-kilometer route.

After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took over the management of the kkStB. On January 1, 1925, the Laun – Libochowitz local railway was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

At the end of the 1920s there was a significant compression of the timetable as well as a significant reduction in travel time to up to 45 minutes. Mostly modern motor trains were now used. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded a total of eight pairs of trains on the route Louny– Lovosice (Lobositz).

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2012 timetable, the route is served every two hours by passenger trains on the U11 line ( Česká Lípa hl. N. – Postoloprty). On weekdays, additional trains condense the offer, sometimes at hourly intervals.

In September 2017, the route operator SŽDC began a comprehensive modernization of the route. In addition to the track systems, the control and safety technology, the crossings and the operating points were completely rebuilt and renewed. To increase the line capacity, the Radonice nad Ohří stop was given a crossing track and was expanded to become a train station. After the work was completed at the end of October 2019, the line speed between Louny and Radonice nad Ohří was increased to 80 km / h and between Radonice nad Ohří and Libochovice to 100 km / h.

Vehicle use

The kkStB purchased two 97 series locomotives for the owner's account . The locomotives had the road numbers 97.205-206.

From 1903 the operating kkStB started using the Serpollet steam railcar kkStB 2.001 (ČSD M 113.001) due to the low number of passengers . Later there was also a steam railcar, which was originally intended for the Böhmisch Leipa – Steinschönau local railway . This vehicle, known as kkStB 1.001 (ČSD M 124.001), entered the holdings of the National Technical Museum in Prague after it was taken out of service .

Today, only the ČD series 814 railcars are used in passenger traffic .
