Zombie Hunter is a 2013 American zombie film directed by Kevin King .

action

In the near future, the drug Natas (backwards for "Satan") turned the world's population into mindless zombies who go after human flesh. Some of the junkies affected grew into mutated megazombies that can hardly be stopped.

For months Hunter struggled alone through post-apocalyptic America, without the slightest hint of other survivors. Suddenly, however, he is shot and ends up with a group of other survivors. This creates some tensions, on the one hand with the shooter, on the other hand the former stripper 'Fast Lane' Debbie and Allison vie for Hunter's favor. The group also includes the supposed priest Jesús, a legendary zombie killer and leader of the small group.

The camp is suddenly overrun by zombies. The group can secure their camp until suddenly a mega-zombie attacks, which even bullets can no longer harm. Jesus rushes to the rescue, but is killed. The survivors of the group escape in cars and try to reach an airfield. From there they want to flee to an island with other survivors.

There is a showdown with the zombies at the airfield. Hunter eventually sacrifices himself to save Alsion and her brother Ricky.

background

The film was shot mostly in Utah. Production companies were The Klimax and Arrowstorm Entertainment. Because the budget was very tight , a Kickstarter campaign was launched that eventually raised $ 46,254 in additional funding.

The film premiered on July 26th, 2013 at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Canada and was screened on August 25th at the Fantasy Filmfest 2013 . A DVD was released in the USA on October 8, 2013, and a German dubbed version was released on April 25, 2014.

reception

The film was generally rated poorly. Horrormagazin.de described the film as the preliminary "low point of the zombie film wave" and summarized the film as follows:

“The film is not even remotely exciting and actually only lives from the butcher's orgies that are being unwound here without any sense or understanding. True to the motto from the film "There's nothing like a massacre in the morning". "
