On the way there, the four must defend themselves against all kinds of enemies.

The film alludes to the enmity between the fans of Star Wars and Star Trek several times . So the friends take a longer detour to mess with Trekkies in Riverside , Iowa, the (according to Star Trek ) future birthplace of James T. Kirk . Furthermore, they end up in Las Vegas on a Star Trek - Convention where she William Shatner meet, which gives them secret information about the Skywalker Ranch.

Ultimately, they reach the ranch and are arrested by security officers. After a quiz in which they have to prove themselves as Star Wars fans, the sick Linus is allowed to see the film and George Lucas waives an advertisement. At the end of the film Linus has already died, but his friends meet at the premiere of Episode I .

Trivia

In a real-life case, Disney and Lucasfilm made it possible for a special screening of the seventh part of Star Wars: The Force Awakens for a cancer-sick fan about a month before the release in December 2015. Star Wars actors Mark Hamill and John Boyega had also advocated it.

criticism

“A running gag of Kyle Newman's fun is the rivalry between star warriors and Trekkies - including an extremely cool guest appearance by 'Star Trek' veteran William Shatner and an attack on the Captain Kirk statue in Riverside, Iowa. This aversion of the two camps is so fresh and realistic that every viewer will wonder which side they are actually on. Conclusion: This weird and passionately told fun is a monument to the people who made 'Star Wars' what it is: a legend. "

“The comedy struggles to string together episodes about nerds who don't want to grow up. Beyond the pleasurable self-reflection of being a fan, including a few cameos, the film has little original to offer. "

In 2010 the film received the special prize for portraying the science fiction fandom of the Curt Siodmak Prize .
