Ernest Christy Cline (born March 29, 1972 in Ashland , Ohio ) is an American writer and screenwriter best known for the independent film comedy Fanboys (2009) and his debut novel Ready Player One from 2010.

Life

Cline was the son of Ernest Christy Cline (April 23, 1929 to April 25, 2000) and his wife Faye Imogene (October 2, 1931 to November 12, 1997, née Williams), who had been married since April 30, 1959, in Ohio born. He brought out these spoken words in 2001 in the book The Importance of Being Ernest (title borrowed from Oscar Wilde's comedy The Importance of Being Earnest ). Cline's favorite video game is said to be Black Tiger , which also appears at an important point in the plot in his novel Ready Player One . For this novel he received the Prometheus Award in 2012 in the “Best Novel” category.

Reception and review

Ernest Cline's books have always landed high on the bestseller lists and are conceptually well suited for film adaptations. So filmed Steven Spielberg 2018 Clines dystopian novel Ready Player One .

Cline is also negotiating the film rights for his third book, the novel Armada , with Crown Publishing ( Penguin Random House ) .

In the newspaper The Columbus Dispatch Michael Grossberg writes: “Ohio native Ernest Cline is riding high with inventive novels and Hollywood screenplays that reflect his fascination with virtual reality and retro video games.” (“Ernest Cline from Ohio is with his inventive novels and Hollywood scripts that reflect his fascination for virtual reality and old retro video games are on the rise.
