action

Frank “Bullet” Marasco, an undercover cop in Los Angeles, is about to retire when he is tasked with incapacitating Carlito Kane, a notorious drug lord. Although Marasco and his people are able to locate one of the hiding places of the wanted person, an arrest fails. However, Marasco manages to arrest Manual Kane, who belongs to Kane's cartel. The fact that he is Kane's son makes this arrest particularly explosive. The court sentenced Manual to death by injection of poison for triple murder by police officers.

Kane then counterattacked and kidnapped the daughter of the California governor and her boyfriend, which made the situation even more difficult. A video sent by the gangsters to the politician also makes it clear that Kane and his people will stop at nothing. It shows how they execute the governor's daughter's boyfriend, threatening that his daughter will be next if he doesn't stop the execution of Manual Kane. But things get worse for Marasco, his grandson Mario is kidnapped to take revenge on the cop responsible for Manual Kane's arrest, but also to accuse him of the police murders. Finally, Marasco himself falls into the hands of the gang for a short time, but he is able to flee.

For Marasco there is now enough, he quits the service in order to no longer have to observe obstructive service regulations, to take action against the drug cartel and to be able to save his grandson. When he can catch one of Kane's helpers, he interrogates the man, and then drowns him in the bathtub, as he refuses to work effectively. Kane has now withdrawn to the California desert with his closest circle of confidants, where one after another is killed by Bullet, including the four men who kidnapped his grandson. After Bullet wins a showdown with Kane, he also manages to save his grandson and the governor's daughter. Manual Kane is publicly executed while Marasco enjoys the evening on the beach with his daughter and grandson Mario.

background

Some scenes in the film take place in mixed martial arts as well as in the Narcotics Anonymous community and are intended to establish a connection with the real life of Trejo, who is considered a recovered drug addict and MMA enthusiast. The idea was to give the film a touch of truthfulness. However, Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian was of the opinion that this was probably more vanity, although there is nothing in the film that justifies vanity.

criticism

"On crisp sayings and violent clashes translated vigilantism - Thriller full logic gaps and incomprehensible connections."

Kino.de spoke of an “action-packed low-budget thriller” in which “Danny Trejo is not in one of his hundred little villain guest roles, but as an avenger and hero in full 'machete' mode with a high body count and relaxed sayings [... ] "Act. It went on to say: “The story goes a long way, the simpler the characters are, who just want to flatten each other. Trejo reaches into the full range of weapons, is a routine as the ice-cold lone fighter. Good grip for action fans. "

In Empire UK said: "Characterized by a sluggish course of action and dubious dialogues. The rather sparse existing thrill is conveyed at most through Trejo's obscurity. ”Conclusion:“ At best mediocre - unfortunately that is a big Trej-No. ”

In the British daily The Guardian , Mark Kermode wrote that this meat and potato meal from B-film actor Danny Trejo tended to make headlines because of property rights, which is the only remarkable thing about this film, which comes along unobtrusively with a brash policeman, who take the law into his own hands.

Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian didn't like the film either, and said it was just a horrible, sluggish, cheaply made film that was neither laughable nor interested in it, nor did it come up with any surprises.
