Richard Darryl Zanuck (born December 13, 1934 in Los Angeles , California - † July 13, 2012 in Beverly Hills ) was an American film producer .

Life

Richard D. Zanuck was born into one of the most famous families in Hollywood . His father Darryl F. Zanuck was a successful producer and boss of 20th Century Fox , his mother the silent film actress Virginia Fox .

Zanuck attended Harvard Military School (Harvard-Westlake School) in Los Angeles and then began studying at Stanford University . During his studies, he worked in the writing department at Fox. After his father established a branch of 20th Century Fox in Paris , Richard D. Zanuck headed the US-based division of the manufacturing company as Vice President.

In 1969 Zanuck junior took over the management of the company. With David Brown as co-producer, he produced films such as The Boston Women Killer with Tony Curtis . In 1973 Zanuck founded the production company Zanuck / Brown Company with David Brown , which produced films such as Jaws and the Cocoon series. Zanuck later founded the production company The Zanuck Company with his third wife, Lili Fini Zanuck , whose productions included Own Rules , Planet of the Apes and Out of Control .

Before his marriage to Lili Fini Zanuck, Richard D. Zanuck was married to Lili Gentle from 1958 to 1968 and to Linda Harrison from 1969 to 1978 . Daughters Virginia (* 1959) and Janet (* 1960) come from his marriage to Gentle, and from his marriage to Harrison the sons Harrison (* 1971) and Dean Zanuck (* 1972), both of whom are also active in the film business.

Zanuck was nominated three times for the Oscar in the category of best film and was able to accept it in 1990 together with Lili Fini Zanuck for Miss Daisy and her chauffeur . He was also honored in 1991 with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award . Richard D. Zanuck is dedicated to a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .

He died on July 13, 2012 of complications from a heart attack .
