Andrés Delgado Pardo

Andrés Delgado Pardo (born March 14, 1870 in Caracas , † April 8, 1940 in Barquisimeto ) was a Venezuelan pianist , composer and music teacher.

Life

Andrés Delgado Pardo took lessons from Luis Velásquez and Carlos Serrano. His career as a pianist began with a performance on the occasion of Simón Bolívar's 100th birthday in 1883. In 1885 he went on a concert tour through the USA, during which he a. a. performed at the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall in New York.

After his return, he wrote his first compositions in 1888, including the Marcha Urdaneta . A scholarship enabled him to study at the Conservatory in Milan from 1896 to 1904. During this time he wrote a large number of piano works, a flute concerto, a string quartet and the opera I due rivali y Símon Bolívar .

On his return to Caracas he became professor of harmony and counterpoint at the Escuela de Música y Declamación . His students included u. a. Vicente Emilio Sojo , Augusto Brandt , José Antonio Ríos Reyna , Miguel Ángel Espinel and José Antonio Escobar Saluzzo . In 1938 he became director of the Barquisimento Conservatory.
