Heinrich Reimers

Heinrich Reimers (born April 8, 1879 in Aurich , † July 22, 1942 in Aurich) was a German Protestant clergyman and publicist .

Life

Reimers came from a long-established East Frisian family that can be traced back to the 15th century. After attending the Ulricianum grammar school in Aurich , he studied theology and history in Tübingen , Erlangen and Göttingen . In 1902 he wrote his dissertation under the title The sources of ubbo emmius and became a PhD .

He worked as a country pastor in the East Frisian communities Westerbur, Ochtelbur and Loga and on the island of Spiekeroog .

In 1910 he married Eda von Eucken, the daughter of the ambassador of the Grand Ducal Oldenburg in Berlin and later President of the East Frisian Landscape , Exc. Dr. Georg von Eucken-Addenhausen .

Heinrich Reimers took extensive study trips to Rome , Vienna , Stockholm , Groningen , Leeuwarden and various other cities. He used these stays for extensive source studies with regard to the history of his East Frisian homeland.

More than 200 publications follow from his research. Particularly noteworthy is his work on the importance of the House of Cirksena for East Frisia.

The Society for Fine Arts and Patriotic Antiquities in Emden awarded him honorary membership; the Friesch Genootschap and the Fryske Akademy in Leeuwarden as well as the Maatschappij vor Nederlandse Letterkunde and the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony led him as a corresponding member.

Several East Frisian cities and communities honored him by naming a street.
