Per-Erik Ekblom

Per-Erik Ekblom ( April 8, 1928 , † May 6, 1993 ) was a Finnish correspondence chess player and chess official.

Chess official

Ekblom was one of the founders of the Finnish Correspondence Chess Federation FCCF in 1961. Here he worked for a long time as a secretary and in the presidium. Until 1966 he was the contact person of the FCCF in the world association ICCF and caused Finland to be accepted as a member of the ICCF in 1963. In 1985 he received the title of International Arbitrator from the ICCF . From 1968 to 1975 he was an auditor at the ICCF.

He has received several awards for his services:

  • 1987 Bertl von Massow medal in gold and silver from the ICCF
  • 1988 Finnish identification mark of the FCCF
  • From 1996 to 2000 the Per Erik Ekblom Memorial was held in his honor, which was won by the Swiss Jens Klügel.

Correspondence chess players

In correspondence chess, he achieved national mastery. He often took part in correspondence chess championships in Finland. In the early 1960s he was fifth twice. His highest correspondence chess rating was 2243 in 1992.
