Bertl von Massow (* July 24, 1921 , † February 27, 1983 in Hamburg ) has made a name for himself in the organization of international correspondence chess .

Private

Bertl von Massow was married to Hans-Werner von Massow , who was also significantly involved in the development of international correspondence chess.

BdF

From 1947, Bertl von Massow and her husband ran the office of the BdF, today's German Correspondence Chess Federation . She worked here for more than 30 years. For these services she became an honorary member of the BdF in 1959.

World Correspondence Chess Federation ICCF

In 1960 she took over the duties of the late Eberhardt Wilhelm : She became head of the tournament office for the European distance tournaments. She held this office until her death.

In 1966 she received the title of International Arbitrator from the ICCF , and in 1971 she became an honorary member of the ICCF.

Honors after death

In 1983 the ICCF presented her with the Bertl von Massow Medal in her memory . The gold medal is awarded to people who have rendered international correspondence chess for at least 15 years. The silver medal is awarded for 10 years of service. In 1996 the Bertl von Massow Memorial started , a tournament in which the strongest correspondence chess players took part.
