August Aschinger (born April 8, 1862 in Oberderdingen ; † January 28, 1911 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was a German restaurateur who, with his brother Carl Aschinger , built up the largest restaurant in Europe for a long time, the Aschinger company , in Berlin around 1900 .

August Aschinger was the tenth of eleven children of the cooper Andreas Aschinger (born July 11, 1807 in Diefenbach ; † November 24, 1867 in Derdingen, today Oberderdingen) and his second wife Dorothea Götz (born June 20, 1819 in Oberderdingen; † 13. June 1874 ibid) born.

Aschinger married Helene Neumann in Berlin in April 1888. From this marriage came Elisabeth († August 1949 in Freiburg im Breisgau ), married to Alexander Kermektschiew since 1912, and Fritz (* 1894; † August 1949 in Berlin, suicide ).

Life

After the early death of their father and the modest circumstances of the widow with eight children, the orphans had to feed themselves very quickly. The older brother Friedrich (* July 8, 1845 in Oberderdingen; † June 27, 1893 in Berlin), who finally found work in Berlin after a job in Silesia , arranged for his brothers August and Carl (* October 19, 1855 in Oberderdingen) around 1880 ; † May 5, 1909 in Berlin) also to go to Berlin. Around 1884 August Aschinger was employed as a cook. With the dowry of his wife, whom he married in 1888, he made the same year as a restaurateur restaurant in Sedan - Panorama independently. The numerous walk-in customers with their specific needs brought them to the considerations that made the success of his later branch operation.

August Aschinger founded the company in 1892 with his brother Carl Aschinger Aschinger that in 1900 with 23 standing beer halls, 15 pastry evolved, eight restaurants and shops within a short time the largest catering facility in Europe. Many cousins ​​and other relatives from Diefenbach and Oberderdingen in Kraichgau found work in Berlin with Aschinger.

Aschinger, who personally took care of all the details of his business, became the first honorary citizen of his place of birth in 1910 , the former municipality of Derdingen. The award document says: In grateful recognition of the loyal attachment to his native and home community, which he has shown through his great charity.

August Aschinger died a year later at the age of only 48 and was buried in the Luisenfriedhof in Berlin. The family grave was created by the sculptor Ludwig Vordermayer . The grave site is in the GU field.

In his birthplace, today's municipality of Oberderdingen, there is an Aschingerstraße, a museum Aschingerhaus and an Aschingerhalle.
