Paul Kuën
Paul Kuën (born April 8, 1910 in Neuburg an der Kammel ; † 1997 ) was a German opera singer ( character tenor ).
Life
He studied in Munich and made his debut in Konstanz in 1933 . 1951–1957 he was the permanent owner of the role of the dwarf Mime in the Ring of the Nibelung at the Bayreuth Festival , which he also recorded in 1958 for Georg Soltis Studio- Rheingold . As a character tenor, Kuën has been celebrated around the world for his extremely flexible and comic-controlled voice, even in the highest registers (and at an advanced age). Internationally, Kuën's rivals Julius Patzak and Gerhard Unger were ; in terms of style and repertoire, his heirs (the more "vicious" ones) are Gerhard Stolze and Heinz Zednik
One of his pupils was Christian Gerhaher .
