Neuburg an der Kammel (officially Neuburg adKammel ) is a market in the Swabian district of Günzburg north of Krumbach .

The community is located in the Donau-Iller region on the Kammel in Bavarian Swabia.

Neuburg, Halbertshofen and Erisweiler are in the Kammeltal , Marbach and Edelstetten in the Haselbach valley . Langenhaslach is in the area where the Haselbach merges into the Kammeltal and Naichen is at the confluence of the Haselbach into the Kammel. Höselhurst and Wattenweiler are in the Günztal .

In the north the municipality borders on the municipality of Kammeltal , in the northeast on Markt Burtenbach , in the east on Markt Münsterhausen , in the southeast on the city of Thannhausen and the municipality of Ursberg , in the south on the city of Krumbach (Swabia) , in the southwest the municipality Deisenhausen , in the west the municipality of Wiesenbach and in the northwest to the municipality of Ellzee .
history
Until the church is planted
Neuburg was first mentioned in a document in 1209. The reign of Neuburg an der Kammel belonged to the margraviate of Burgau in Upper Austria . The fiefdom went to the following noble families: Weißenhorn-Neuffen (1209–1347), Ellerbach (1348–1458), Rechberg zu Hohenrechberg (1460–1524) and Vöhlin v. Frickenhausen (1524-1816); In 1347 Neuburg was granted town charter, but in the 15th century it sank again to the market. Emperor Friedrich III. awarded the market coat of arms in 1491 at the request of Ulrich von Rechberg zu Hohenrechberg . With the Rhine Confederation Act 1806, the place came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . Neuburg had market rights with its own rights.
Incorporations
On May 1, 1978, the previously independent communities of Langenhaslach (with Naichen) and Wattenweiler (with Höselhurst, which was incorporated on January 1, 1926) and parts of the dissolved community of Edelstetten (with Marbach) were incorporated .

As in most of Central Swabia, the majority of the community's population is Catholic.
Until 1675 there was a Jewish community in Neuburg.

The municipal council has 16 members. Since the local elections on March 15, 2020 , the seats have been divided into the following lists:

Markus Dopfer (CSU) has been mayor since May 1, 2020; he was the only applicant to receive 95.7% of the vote. Its predecessors were

- The former monastery of Edelstetten Monastery , now known as the castle, is one of the outstanding baroque buildings in the Günzburg district.

- Below the palace complex, an old avenue of lime trees leads to the parish church. This is designated as a natural monument.
Economy and Transport
Like the districts of Langenhaslach and Naichen, Neuburg is located on the state road St 2024, which runs from south to north in the Kammeltal . In Langenhaslach, State Road 2023 , which runs from Thannhausen via Edelstetten, joins State Road 2024. The B 16 runs through Wattenweiler and Höselhurst . In addition, Neuburg has a stop on the Mittelschwabenbahn .

- Christoph Rodt (* around 1575 in Neuburg; † 1634 in Großkötz ) was an early Baroque sculptor whose works can be seen mainly in Central Swabia; one of the main works is the group descent from the cross in the parish church "Mariä Himmelfahrt" in Neuburg.
