history

Until the church is planted

Waltenhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1120. At that time the place was in the Duchy of Swabia . The von Wernau family ruled Waltenhausen from 1423 to 1541. The Fuggers acquired rule from them in 1541, from then on Waltenhausen belonged to the Fugger Family Foundation. Seven years later, on the site of Werdnau'schen Castle, the Pfründespital Waltenhausen was built, which was demolished in 1824 with the exception of the former Zehentstadel ( Lindenstrasse 8 ; → see also: List of architectural monuments in Waltenhausen ). This was used as the Fugger's forester's house for a long time. With the Rheinbund act 1806 the place came to Bavaria .

Culture and sights

The neo-Romanesque parish church of St. George was built in 1864 because the previous church, built in the late Gothic style, was in danger of collapsing. Only the tower still comes from the previous building from the 15th century. Most of the furnishings in the church date from the time the new construction was carried out by craftsmen from the region. During the renovation in 1988, the original version of the interior was reconstructed, which had meanwhile been painted over in white.
