history

An indication of the early settlement of this area is an early medieval ring wall, which lies about 1.3 kilometers north-northwest of Haupeltshofen on the Riedel between the valleys of the Kammel and Krumbächles on the border with the municipality of Waltenhausen .

Haupteltshofen, which was first mentioned in 1384 as Hupoltzhofen , was right on the border between the margraviate of Burgau and the rule of Mindelheim . Even today the place is still on the southern border of the district of Günzburg to the district of Unterallgäu . At the time of the first documentary mention, the goods in Haupeltshofen belonged to the Ursberg Monastery . In 1508 the village passed to the noble family of Freybergs, who already had possessions in Niederraunau , Hohenraunau , Aletshausen and Hürben .

In 1805, Haupteltshofen, like the entire area between Iller and Lech, became part of Bavaria .

In the course of the Bavarian regional reform , the formerly independent community Haupeltshofen was incorporated into Aletshausen on May 1, 1978 .

Attractions

The pilgrimage church of the Visitation of Mary , east of the village on the slope of the Kammeltal, was built in 1618. The pilgrimage comes from the fact that there is a copy of the miraculous image of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome in the church . In 1687 the church got an extension on the east side, another extension and partly new building on the west side followed in 1722. Another renovation, which is attributed to Johann Martin Kraemer , followed in 1766/67. The paintings and frescoes in the church that were created in the course of this renovation were the first major work by the Krumbach painter Jakob Fröschle .
