history
At the beginning of the 12th century , Raunau's local nobility was first mentioned in a document. In 1472 Veit von Rechberg von Hohenrechberg was enfeoffed with the castle and the Hohenraunau palace by the Augsburg Canonical Monastery of St. Peter. In the following centuries the owner of this fief changed several times, including to Egloff von Knöringen, Ferdinand Vöhlin von Frickenhausen, Vöhlin von Neuburg and Karl von Rebay.
Hohenraunau Castle, which was located southwest of the chapel on today's western outskirts, was destroyed in 1525 during the German Peasants' War. A castle stables can still be seen today.
In 1805 Hohenraunau, like the entire area between Iller and Lech, came to Bavaria .
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Hohenraunau was the first of the previously independent communities that are now districts of Krumbach to become part of the city of Krumbach as part of the regional reform .
Attractions
Herz Jesu chapel (built: 1706)
The largest free-standing bell in Germany is located in the town's cemetery, consisting of six cast steel bells that are chimed by hand. These are disused bells from two churches: the three lowest clay bells come from the St. Sylvester Church in Hiltenfingen , the three highest pitch bells come from the Niederraunau parish church . All bells were cast by the Bochum Association in 1948.
