Krumbad: inner courtyard with well house

The Krumbad is a spa in Krumbach (Swabia) with a 600-year tradition. The legend of the noble daughter Adelheid is closely related to the bath . The Krumbader Badstein is the natural, site-specific remedy used in the treatment of the state-approved natural peloid company .

geography

The bath is located in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia . The quiet, secluded location in the middle of the gentle hills of the Lower Iller-Lech gravel plates in the northern part of the Alpine foothills with extensive forests and meadows invites you to go on idyllic walks or hikes. The low-irritation climate at an altitude of 550 m supports the relaxing effect of a cure in the Krumbad.

history

Hiltipold von Krumbenbach built a castle on the hill of today's Krumbad in 1145 and named it "Hiltipoldsburg", popularly "Hilpelsberg". Hiltipoldsburg and Hürben (today the eastern part of Krumbach) came to the Knights of Ellerbach some time later, who also took Krumbach.
In 1389 Ulrich von Ellerbach , who was also Burgau governor, married Adelheid von Roth, the daughter of noble Johann von Roth. In 1390 the jealous knight locked his wife Adelheid in a barn for alleged adultery, which he set on fire. At the point where the knight burned the pious woman in the barn, a spring came to light, which was then used as a healing spring for the "Bad zu Lechsenried" - later Adelheid spring .
In 1418 Wilhelm Sartor von Ursberg bought the "Bad zu Lexenried". The bath remained in the possession of the imperial monastery Ursberg until the secularization in 1802 . In 1595 120 illnesses were recorded which could be cured by "this bath mixed with gypsum". The Lauingen doctor Martin Ruland had the first advertising poster printed on this subject (today in the library in Nancy ). In the Thirty Years' War the Krumbad was almost completely destroyed in 1633, and all facilities including the three bath kettles were stolen. In 1758 a bath history for the Krumbad was printed, with the results of an investigation of the Krumbad Badstein and its healing powers by the Elector Mainz Court Councilor and Leibmedico, Mr. D. Joseph Ignatius von Bingen . Further scientific reports with investigations of the source and the silicic acid-containing peloid "Krumbader Badstein" followed continuously up to the present day and led to the state recognition as a peloid spa company. In 1802 the Krumbad became Bavarian, it came into the possession of the Elector Maximilian of Bavaria , in 1891 to Dominikusringenisen , the founder of the Ursberger Anstalten (today Dominikus -ringenisen-Werk ). This began a new rise in the bathroom. New buildings and improvements were made. From 1940 to 1945 Bishop Joannes Baptista Sproll found refuge from the National Socialists in Krumbad after he was banished from his diocese of Rottenburg. During both world wars, the Krumbad was used as a special hospital for soldiers suffering from rheumatism. In 1981 the Heilbad Krumbad GmbH was founded. Since then, shareholders have been the St. Josef Congregation Ursberg , the Swabian district, the Günzburg district and the city of Krumbach.

present

The Krumbad spa is recognized - as a sanatorium (1974) - as a Kneipp spa (1979) by the Kneipp-Bund eV - as a peloid spa (2001) - as a 3-star superior establishment (German hotel classification).

The Krumbader Badstein is extracted north of the Krumbad from the ridge of the beech forest, excavation depth 3 to 5 meters. The designated in the bathrooms science as peloid remedies ( "Pelos" = Greek. Mud) is a bentonitischer mudstone and probably from the Molasse emerged deposited volcanic ash. The latest research points to connections with the meteorite impact in the Ries . The main components are silicon (silicic acid) with over 60 percent as well as magnesium and potassium.

A report by the Institute for Balneology and Climatology at the University of Munich confirms the following therapeutic indications:

  • Degenerative joint diseases
  • Soft tissue rheumatism
  • Chronic inflammatory gynecological diseases
  • Follow-up treatment of operated hip joints
  • Cervical spine syndrome
