The Catholic pilgrimage church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Haupeltshofen , a district of the municipality of Aletshausen in the Swabian district of Günzburg , was built around 1618. The pilgrimage church east of the village on the slope of the Kammeltal is a protected architectural monument .

history

The pilgrimage church goes back to the canons of Salzburg, Eichstätt and Augsburg, Marquard von Freyberg († 1626). The pilgrimage gained its importance through the copy of the miraculous image of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome . The rotunda received an extension on the east side in 1687. Another extension and partial new building on the west side followed in 1722. Another renovation, attributed to Johann Martin Kraemer , took place in 1766/67. The paintings and frescoes in the church were the first major work by the Krumbach painter Jakob Fröschle .
