Chapel in Gaismarkt

Gaismarkt is a small village (70 inhabitants) in the municipality of Aletshausen in the Swabian district of Günzburg .

location

The church village is located about one and a half kilometers north-northeast of Aletshausen on the Riedel between the valleys of the Kammel and Haselbach . The place is connected to Aletshausen via the district road GZ 30 and the federal road 16 .

history

A castle is first mentioned around 1316, which was probably the seat of Berg's local nobility . Of the two-part castle complex with outer bailey in the north and main castle in the south on the eastern edge of the Kammeltal valley, 600 m west of today's Gaismarkt on the eastern edge of the Kammeltal valley, only a few ditches, plateaus and raised fields remain. Originally the place was called Gaismarkt after the noble family that ruled the castle, Berg. From 1366 the castle and probably also the place belonged to the bishopric of Augsburg . The current name is first mentioned in 1423. The name of the place indicates the markets that always took place on Whit Monday and Michaelmas and where there was probably always a lot of goats traded.

In the course of secularization at the beginning of the 19th century, like the entire area between Iller and Lech, the Kingdom of Bavaria came into being . From then on until the regional reform in Bavaria , Gaismarkt belonged to the municipality of Winzer , which then became part of the municipality of Aletshausen on May 1, 1978 as part of this reorganization.

Attractions

The St. Wendelin Chapel in Gaismarkt, like its altar, dates from the 18th century.
