Hammersmith Naichen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hammerschmiede Naichen is a museum in Naichen , a district of Neuburg an der Kammel in the district of Günzburg in Bavaria. The museum is a branch museum of the Oberschönenfeld Museum near Gessertshausen in the Augsburg district , which is operated by the Swabian district .

history

Both buildings, the hammer mill and what was later called the Stockerhof after its owner, were built in 1839 and have essentially hardly changed since that time. Presumably because the blacksmith's operation alone was not enough to survive, the blacksmith in question still ran a small farm. This is why the Stockerhof was originally not only the home of the blacksmith, but also housed the stable and the threshing floor. In 1860 the property became the property of the Stocker family. It was not until 1932 that the hammer forge and agriculture were managed by different owners. Since then, the blacksmith has lived on the first floor of the hammer forge building. Only since the Swabian district acquired the Stockerhof have the agricultural property and the hammer forge building been in one hand again.

Hammer forge

Hammer forge

In the hammer forge and agricultural machinery workshop, you can see at the original location how the workshop looked around 1975. The machines (for example the spring drop hammer ) in the hammer mill , which are driven by the water power of the Kammel , date mostly from 1922.

On the first floor of the hammer forge, the forge's apartment of the last owners can be viewed in its original restoration.

As described in the history section , the Stockerhof was the blacksmith's original home with a small farm. The farm combined living, stable and barn areas under one roof.

museum

The hammer forge has been open to the public as a museum since 1990. A year later, the Stockerhof was also acquired by the Swabian district, which was restored from 1996 to 1998 in accordance with monument requirements and converted for use as a museum. The Stockerhof is used for special exhibitions and events.

In the months between April and October, a blacksmith demonstration takes place in the hammer mill on the first and third Sunday of the month.
