Heinz Zednik (born February 21, 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer ( character tenor ).

Life

Zednik studied at the Vienna Conservatory , made his debut in Graz in 1964 and became a member of the Vienna State Opera in 1965 . From 1970 he sang at the Bayreuth Festival , where he succeeded Gerhard Stolze and Gerhard Unger as mime, box and David . In the so-called “ Ring of the Century ” in 1976 he embodied the Loge in Rheingold and the Mime in Siegfried under the musical direction of Pierre Boulez and directed by Patrice Chéreau . From 1980 he took part in the Salzburg Festival , where Herbert von Karajan took himwhen Bardolfo engaged in Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff , in 1992 he could be seen at the Festival in Z Mrtvého Domu . Under the direction of Herbert von Karajan he sang Valzacchi in Rosenkavalier , under Claudio Abbado the writer in Khovanshchina , under James Levine the Monostatos in the Magic Flute and under Lorin Maazel the director in Un ré in ascolto .

In song singing, Heinz Zednik devotes himself to an unusual repertoire. For example Ernst Krenek's song cycle Reiseuch from the Austrian Alps , as well as the Krämerspiegel by Richard Strauss or the Grünspan songs composed especially for him by Franz Thürauer . In addition, Zednik is one of the leading interpreters of the classic Viennese song .

Heinz Zednik is considered by many to be the ideal cast for his parade roles due to his natural talent for comedy, farce and irony as well as his high, very flexible voice and his small, slim figure.

In 2019 he married the cosmetic surgeon Dagmar Millesi.
