Ulrich I. (Mecklenburg-Stargard)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich I., Duke of Mecklenburg [-Stargard] (* before 1382 ; † April 8, 1417 ) was Duke of Mecklenburg [-Stargard] from 1392 / 1393–1417 , from 1408 Lord of Neubrandenburg , Stargard , Strelitz and Wesenberg (with the license).

family

He was the child of the third marriage of Duke Johann I and his wife Agnes.

biography

Ulrich I was probably born before 1382 and only ruled together with his brother Johann II and Albrecht I († 1397). In 1408 he shared the land with his brother Johann and got Neubrandenburg , Burg Stargard , Strelitz and Wesenberg (with the license). He made the former his residence. On March 19, 1417, he is said to have made his will at the Strelitz castle and died three weeks later on April 8, 1417. There was a rumor that he had received poison. Ulrich I is said to have been buried in Wanzka . This seems credible since his only daughter was the abbess in the monastery. He was married to Margaretha, daughter of Duke Swantibor I (III) of Pomerania-Stettin.
