Max Grundey

Max Grundey (born February 10, 1856 in Cosel , Upper Silesia , † January 16, 1946 in Berlin ) was a geologist and fossil collector .

Life

Max Grundey was born in Cosel, Upper Silesia; to date, very little information from his private life is known. He was a geodesist and Obermarkscheider in the service of the Prussian government and thus one of the leading ore experts in Silesia . In his private life he was an avid collector of rocks and fossils. In 1934 he became the first director of geology and mineralogy at the Gliwice Museum. He retired in 1945 and died a year later in Berlin.

He bequeathed an abundance of fossils and large amounts of fossil vertebrate remains from Upper Silesian shell limestone to the geological state collection in Berlin (current body: Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials ).

The fossil sea ​​lily Dadocrinus grundeyi LANGENHAN is named after him.
