Chino XL (2012)

Chino XL (born April 8, 1971 in the Bronx , New York ; real name Derek Barbosa ) is an American rapper . He is known for his battlerap skills and from a fight ( East Coast vs. West Coast ) with 2Pac .

Career

Derek Barbosa grew up in East Orange , New Jersey . After the formation of the group Art of Origin , Chino XL was signed by American Recordings , the record company of the great music producer Rick Rubin , at the age of 16 . He released his first album Here to Save You All in 1996 , which received positive reviews and also airplay on radio and MTV . Although the album had more of an underground hip-hop flair stylistically , Chino XL received more attention because of a minor engagement with 2Pac . This originated in his song Riiiot with the line "by this industry, I'm trying not to get fucked like 2Pac in jail" ("I won't let this industry fuck me like 2Pac in jail") , whereupon 2Pac Chino XL briefly Mentioned negatively at the end of his famous diss song Hit 'Em Up . Chino XL answered this with a freestyle on a radio show. Since 2Pac died shortly afterwards, the beef could not be added. Chino XL stated that he has the utmost respect for Tupac and that his sentence, which is considered the trigger for the beef, was only intended as a metaphor .

After a long period of inactivity in which he began to devote himself to acting , he released his second album I Told You So in 2001 . This was much more battle rap oriented than his debut album and was also produced more commercially . Although it received good reviews , it hardly sold because of poor promotion .

After several postponements he released his third album Poison Pen in 2006 , on which Killah Priest , The Beatnuts and Proof by D12 can be heard.

In early 2007 a collaboration album with Playalitical called Something Sacred was released .
