Humberto Jorge Rosa (born April 8, 1932 in Buenos Aires ; † September 8, 2017 ) was an Argentine-Italian football player and later coach. As an active player under contract with Rosario Central , Juventus Turin and AC Napoli , among others , he later led AC Padova into the final of the Coppa Italia .

Player career

Humberto Rosa was born on April 8, 1932 in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . He started playing football in Rosario at the local club Rosario Central . In the very first year, being bottom of the table, relegation from the Primera División had to be accepted. For the 1952 season, however, they were promoted again and could now establish themselves in the first division. Until Rosa's departure from Rosario Central in the middle of the 1954 season, Central was in the Primera División. The young midfielder had made a total of 88 league games with nine goals for his employer from 1950 to summer 1954.

For the 1954/55 season , Humberto Rosa moved to Italy to Sampdoria Genoa . There, however, he did not really strike as a regular player and only made 48 league appearances in three years, in which he scored ten goals. In the summer of 1957, Humberto Rosa, who meanwhile also had Italian citizenship, joined the league rivals AC Padova . Under coach Nereo Rocco and with players like Kurt Hamrin , Ivano Blason and Sergio Brighenti , the club has just experienced its most successful phase to date. In the Serie A 1957/58 they surprisingly came third in the classification, only behind the new Italian champions Juventus Turin and Fiorentina. In the years that followed, AC Padova continued to convince. In 1959/60 , another strong position was achieved with sixth place. The same could be repeated a year later. In the summer of 1961, Humberto Rosa and his employer parted ways. Previously, a native of Argentina, he had played 150 games in four years and hit the opposing goal 16 times.

From Padua , Humberto Rosa moved to record champions Juventus Turin, where he experienced the worst season ever in the club's history. As the reigning champion in Serie A 1961/62 only the thirteenth place in the table was occupied, six points before the first relegation place, which was also occupied by AC Padova. Rosa was used eighteen times this messed up season, scoring two goals. He then went to the reigning cup winners AC Napoli , with whom he was relegated back to Serie B in his first season as a promoted team . There, with eighth place, the targeted return was clearly missed. After the end of the second division season 1963/64, Humberto Rosa ended his footballing career at the age of 32.

Coaching career

Only two years later he took over from Serafino Montanari at AC Padova. Montanari was fired in the middle of the second division season 1965/66 due to unsuccessfulness. Under his successor Rosa, the performance of AC Padova improved again, the club ended the season in safe midfield. The following year it looked similar with sixth place. However, Padova caused a sensation in the Coppa Italia in 1966/67 . One after the other they eliminated AC Venice , US Palermo , FC Varese , SSC Napoli and Inter Milan and stood in the final of the Italian Cup competition. AC Milan was waiting there as an opponent . Here, however, Padova was defeated by a goal by Amarildo in the 49th minute of the game with 0: 1. Nevertheless, reaching the final was a great success for the club, which it has not been able to repeat in this form until today. In the league, however, the following years went less well. In the 1968/69 season, Humberto Rosa led his team as the last of the Serie B in the third division, then he resigned as coach of AC Padova.

In San Dona Calcio Rosa spent the 1970/71 season in Serie D , then followed by an engagement at US Siracusa 1972 to 1973 in the C series . 1973/74 he coached the US Latina in the same league, but here, being bottom of the table, relegation to Serie D had to be accepted. After a year break, Rosa took over the traditional club Udinese Calcio , which had meanwhile slipped into the third division , but with which he only occupied a midfield position and was not renewed after a year. This was followed by three more positions at Pro Patria Calcio , AC Venice and again at San Donà Calcio, none of which were crowned with great success.
