Rudolph Wilhelm Krause the Elder also: Crause Krauss (born April 8, 1612 in Naumburg ; † January 10, 1689 in Weimar ) was a German jurist and Chancellor of Saxony-Weimar.

Life

Rudolph Wilhelm was the son of the city doctor and Lord Mayor of Naumburg Peter Krause (born March 26, 1575 in Magdeburg, † June 27, 1657 in Naumburg) and his wife Barbara Braun, married on November 20, 1604 (born December 7, 1583 in Naumburg; † August 3, 1616 ibid) From 1623 he attended the school in Naumburg, which was under the direction of Johannes Sixt. In 1629 he moved to the University of Jena , where he first studied the philosophical sciences. In 1632 he moved to the University of Wittenberg , where he did legal studies. At that time, Jeremias Reusner , Konrad Carpzov , Johann Strauch I and Henning Große taught here at the legal faculty .

After defending the treatise de Tutela et Cura, Furto et Rapina, Postulando et Infamia, Procuratoribus et Defensibus, Negotiis gestis et Calumniatoribus, Negotiis gestis et Calumniatoribus, Pignoribus et Hypthecis etc. under the latter , he returned to Jena in 1635. Here he completed further legal studies and received his doctorate on November 15, 1638 as a doctor of law . He then returned to Naumburg, where he worked as a lawyer. In 1640 he became a lawyer in Merseburg, in 1641 an advocate at the court in Jena and on August 4, 1643, professor of law in Jena. In 1646 he moved to Weimar as court and judicial councilor, where he became chancellor of Saxony-Weimar, consistorial president and privy councilor in 1658, which he remained until 1672. In 1659 he became a member of the fruitful society , with the company name of the humble. He was ennobled and became the hereditary lord of Mellingen.

Krause married on September 17, 1639 with Maria Wolf (* April 2, 1617 in Naumburg, † December 18, 1681 in Weimar), the daughter of Pankratius Wolf and his wife Justina Sacer. After the death of his first wife, he married Susanna Catharina Ziegler, the daughter of Paul Ziegler from Ilmenau. There are children from the first marriage. We know of these:
