Rudolph Wilhelm Krause the Younger

Rudolph Wilhelm Krause the Younger also: Crause, Krauss, Crausius (born October 22, 1642 in Naumburg , † December 26, 1718 in Jena ) was a German physician.

Life

Krause was the son of the Chancellor of the same name of Saxe-Weimar Rudolph Wilhelm Krause the Elder . Since his father acquired the nobility diploma, he often used the name Hereditari von Mellingen in his lifetime. His father had made sure that his son had good teachers at his side when he was still young. These included Christian Chemnitz and Georg Götze , among others . Already on April 22, 1659, honorary matriculation at the University of Jena . Here he first attended the philosophical lectures of the professors there and turned to the medical sciences under Gottfried Möbius . After defending some works as part of his training with Werner Rolfinck and Johann Theodor Schenck , he went on a gentlemanly journey . This led him first to the University of Erfurt , the University of Leipzig , the University of Wittenberg , Frankfurt am Main , Darmstadt , Mainz , Hamburg and Emden , in the Netherlands. Here he frequented the University of Groningen , the University of Utrecht , was in Amsterdam and at the University of Leiden , where he attended lectures by Florentius Schuyl and Franciscus Sylvius .

After a short stay in London , he traveled to Italy via the Netherlands and Germany. In Italy he gained further impressions in various cities. At the University of Padua he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy and on August 6, 1667 , he received his doctorate in medicine under Antonio Molinetti (-1675) . After another stay in Italy, where he was almost poisoned in Milan, he returned to Jena. Here he became associate professor of medicine at the Salana on June 28, 1671, after the death of Johann Theodor Schenck he was promoted to the second full professorship of theoretical medicine in 1672 and became first professor of practical medicine after the death of Werner Rolfinck in 1673 Chemistry in Jena. On September 25, 1676 , nicknamed Typhus, he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . As a professor at Salana, he also took part in the university's organizational tasks. He was dean of the medical faculty several times and in the winter semesters 1672, 1678, 1684 and 1694 rector of the alma mater .

family

Krause married on December 29, 1681 in Jena with Eleonore Conrad (died April 10, 1658 in Gera; born January 15, 1690 in Jena), the daughter of the court preacher in Gera Heinrich Conrad (died January 26, 1617 in Gera ; † June 1, 1684 ibid). After the death of his first wife, he entered into a second marriage with Anna Maria Neresius († 1758). There are children from the first marriage. We know of these:
