John of Hoym

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann von Hoym († April 8, 1437 ) ruled from 1420 to 1437 as Bishop of Halberstadt . He had previously been Scholasticus (head of the cathedral school) and came from the noble family Hoym , at all times Ministeriale of the Princes of Anhalt .

During his tenure in office he was involved in armed conflicts with Duke Bernhard of Braunschweig and the Lords of Aschersleben. However, he also made alliances with Halberstadt , Quedlinburg , Aschersleben , Erfurt , Mühlhausen and Nordhausen .

Because of the heavy debt within the city of Halberstadt, inner-city riots arose, the so-called Halberstädterschicht under the leadership of the Hadeber family (1423–1431).
