Margrit Wetzel born Brüggen (born April 8, 1950 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from secondary school in 1967, Margrit Wetzel completed an apprenticeship as a hotel and restaurant assistant in the Hamburg hotel "Vier Jahreszeiten" and then worked there as a shopping assistant. In 1975 she began studying at the University of Economics and Politics in Hamburg, which she finished in 1978 as an economist (grad.). She then completed a degree in philosophy , psychology and sociology at the University of Hamburg , which she completed in 1984 with a Magister Artium (MA). In 1988 she received her doctorate here as a Dr. phil. with the work "Criteria of Political Justice - on Kant's Topicality " .

Margrit Wetzel has two children.

Political party

Margrit Wetzel joined the SPD in 1978 and was a member of the executive committee of the SPD sub-district of Stade from 1985 to 2000, and chairwoman from 1996 to 2000.

Since 1991 she has been a member of the district council of the Stade district.

Margrit Wetzel was a member of the German Bundestag for the first time from 1990 to 1994 and again from 1998 to 2009 . From 2002 to 2005 she was Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee for Transport, Building and Housing. From 2005 to 2009 she was a pilot of the SPD coastal gang .

Margrit Wetzel is 1990 on the national list Lower Saxony since 1998, always as the directly elected members of the constituency Stade - Rotenburg I and since 2002 the constituency Stade - Cuxhaven into the Bundestag drawn in. In the 2005 Bundestag election , she received 48.1% of the first votes .
