SPD coastal gang

The SPD Coast Gang is an alliance of SPD - members of parliament from the five states with access to the North and Baltic Sea ( Bremen , Hamburg , Lower Saxony , Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein ).

With its interest in representing the interests of the “maritime industry and the adjacent economic sectors” in these federal states in the Bundestag, the coastal gang differs from socio-political inner-faction currents such as Seeheimer Kreis , Netzwerk Berlin and the parliamentary left .

Chair

The coastal gang is represented by a “ pilot ” and a “ mooring line ”.

Sonja Steffen from Stralsund has been “pilot” since 2014 . From 2005 to 2009 Margrit Wetzel acted as a pilot. Wetzel's predecessor was Reinhold Robbe , who was the Bundestag's defense commissioner from 2005 to 2010 . From 2009 the Bremerhaven MP Uwe Beckmeyer was the pilot.

Since 2014, Dr. Birgit Malecha-Nissen from Schleswig-Holstein and Johann Saathoff from Lower Saxony. Their predecessor from 2009 was the MP Sonja Steffen from Stralsund.

Counterpart in the European Parliament

In the European Parliament there has also been a "coastal gang" of SPD members from the German coastal states since 2006, which initially dealt with the EU Commission's " Green Paper on European Maritime Policy" . The founder and first “pilot” was the MP Matthias Groote , his successor since 2011 has been Knut Fleckenstein from Hamburg .
