Reinhold Robbe
Reinhold Robbe (born October 9, 1954 in Bunde , East Frisia ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and political advisor. From 1994 to 2005 he was a member of the German Bundestag and then until May 2010 its defense commissioner . From 2010 to 2015 he was President of the German-Israeli Society .
Life
education and profession
After graduating from secondary school in 1970, Robbe attended a vocational school for three years and in 1973 passed the commercial assistant examination at the Hanover Chamber of Commerce . He was then from 1974 to 1975 as a publishing assistant at the newspaper Rheiderland worked and then made up to 1976 civilian service . From 1976 to 1986 he was chairman of the works council at Lebenshilfe Leer and from 1986 to 1994 press spokesman and managing director of the SPD district of Weser / Ems .
From 2012 to 2014 Robbe was managing director of the German private institute for the development of democracy and security (DIDES GmbH). He has been Honorary Consul of the Republic of Rwanda in Germany since 2013 .

He has been a member of the SPD since 1970. From 1979 to 1987 he was chairman of the SPD district association in Leer. From 1976 to 1991 he was a member of the municipal and joint council of Bunde.
MP
From 1994 to 2005 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was a member of the executive committee of the SPD parliamentary group and had been chairman of the defense committee since November 2002 . He was also the "pilot" (chairman) of the SPD coastal gang . Robbe always entered the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list .
In October 2012, he applied internally as an SPD candidate for the Berlin-Treptow - Köpenick constituency for election to the 18th German Bundestag in 2013, but was defeated by Matthias Schmidt in a member survey .
Armed Forces Commissioner
On April 14, 2005 he was elected (as the first former community service provider) to the German Bundestag's defense commissioner and sworn in on May 12, 2005.
On March 20, 2007, Robbe described the situation in German barracks as scandalous due to the lack of financial resources for the maintenance of the accommodations and the salaries of the soldiers: "Two thirds of them belong to the lower income groups." He also recommended that the requirements of foreign assignments be met not easy to expand. “In each individual case, it is important to check whether the armed forces are too heavily burdened or even overwhelmed.” At the end of his five-year term as military commissioner, he renewed his criticism in March 2010. He accused the inspector of the medical service of "clear failure". In view of the expansion of foreign missions and the increased number of patients, he believed that 600 doctors were missing. He also criticized the equipment of the Bundeswehr and the poor training of the recruits.
In spring 2010 he also accused the military leadership of glossing over a number of problems with regard to the Afghanistan mission. "Whoever wears golden stars on the left and right has to open his mouth."
On May 19, 2010 Robbe was retired from his position as Commissioner for the Armed Forces. His successor was the FDP politician Hellmut Königshaus .
Honorary positions
Robbe was Vice President of the German-Israeli Society until October 2010 and then succeeded Johannes Gerster in the office of President of the German-Israeli Society after his election at the Annual General Meeting in Erfurt .
He continues to be Vice President of the German Atlantic Society . Robbe has been a member of the General Synod of the Evangelical Reformed Church (regional church) since 2009 . Robbe is a member of the advisory board of the American Jewish Committee Berlin and since 2012 a member of the foundation board of trustees of AMCHA Germany and deputy chairman of the support company for the reconstruction of the Potsdam Garrison Church .
Even after he resigned from the post of Armed Forces Commissioner , Robbe is still committed to the interests of German soldiers, for example in the “Solidarity with Soldiers” round table. Robbe is also the patron of the 'Frontkultur' association to promote dialogue between soldiers and civil society, especially in cultural projects. Robbe supported the initiative GDR military prison Schwedt eV, which tries to come to terms with the history of the former GDR military prison in Schwedt .
Spying on by the Iranian secret service
In 2017, the Berlin Court of Appeal sentenced a student from Pakistan to a prison term of four years and three months for acting as an agent for the secret service. Among other things, he had spied on Robbe, mainly because of his role as President of the German-Israeli Society, on behalf of an Iranian secret service. The student is said to have operated on behalf of the Al-Quds unit and scouted out targets that could easily be hit in the event of war. Robbe is an evangelical reformist and lives in a registered civil partnership with the director and curator Freo Majer .
