Wolfgang Hellmich (politician)
Wolfgang Hellmich (born May 5, 1958 in Welver ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Hellmich has been a member of the German Bundestag since June 2012 . Since May 2015 he has been chairman of the Defense Committee of the German Bundestag and since February 2019 he has chaired the 1st Investigative Committee of the Defense Committee of the 19th German Bundestag .
Life
Hellmich grew up on a farm. He attended the Protestant primary school in Welver and graduated from the Archigymnasium in Soest . Then he studied in Münster for the teaching post.
Hellmich has been widowed since 2010 and remarried since 2014; he has two children (* 1991 and * 1998) and has lived in Bad Sassendorf since 1993.
SPD politician
Hellmich joined the SPD in 1976 and volunteered in local politics in Soest, Bad Sassendorf, Welver, Münster and the Ruhr area. In 1986 he became the full-time managing director of the SPD in the Western Westphalia district in Dortmund and deputy state managing director in Düsseldorf .
In the 2009 federal election candidate Hellmich in constituency Soest and missed a place in the Bundestag scarce.
MP
With Michael Groschek's resignation on June 21, 2012, Hellmich succeeded him in the German Bundestag . In the 17th electoral term he was a full member of the Defense Committee and an alternate member of the committees on health, as well as on food, agriculture and consumer protection.
Hellmich ran again in the Soest district in the federal election on September 22, 2013 . He moved back into the German Bundestag via the state list of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia (list position 13).
In the 18th legislative period, Wolfgang Hellmich was a full member of the Defense Committee and, since May 20, 2015, its chairman, succeeding Hans-Peter Bartels , who was appointed Defense Commissioner of the German Bundestag . He was a deputy member of the Health Committee. Hellmich was also a deputy member of the Subcommittee on Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-Proliferation and the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO (NATO PV for short). He was a member and head of the German delegation to the Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) of the EU.
In the general election in 2017 Hellmich came in again and managed on the national list to move into the 19th German Bundestag .
Hellmich is on the Defense Committee and the sub-committee of the Defense Committee in the 19th German Bundestag .
Since February 14th, he has chaired the sub-committee of the Defense Committee, which is supposed to clear up the so-called advisory affair surrounding Minister von der Leyen and the procurement system of the Bundeswehr. Wolfgang Hellmich chairs the meetings of the committee of inquiry.
Other activities and voluntary work
From 2002 to 2008 Wolfgang Hellmich was managing director of a real estate company in Dortmund.
Wolfgang Hellmich is a member of the German Army Support Group .
Hellmich was honorary chairman of the German Red Cross in Bad Sassendorf until 2012 .
He is a member of the Bundestag Borussia, a club of supporters of the Borussia Dortmund football club in the German Bundestag.
He is also a member of the IGBCE and IG Metall .
