Helmut Wieczorek

Helmut Wieczorek (born February 24, 1934 in Bochum ; † November 29, 2010 ) was a German engineer, manager and politician of the SPD .

Life

Helmut Wieczorek completed an apprenticeship as a craftsman after primary school. He acquired an engineering qualification via the second educational path, and he also completed a part-time degree in economics. From 1958 to 1960 he was an operations assistant at the Krupp Bochumer Verein , and from 1960 to 1965 he was a safety engineer at Phoenix-Rheinrohr AG, Duisburg. From 1965 to 1973 he was operations manager, 1973 to 1975 operations manager. From 1975 he was senior engineer at Thyssen AG and head of staff departments directly on the executive board of Thyssen AG, and from 1984 divisional director of Thyssen Industrie, entrusted with the management of Thyssen Engineering GmbH. Since 1994 he has been working as a freelancer. He was chairman of the supervisory board of Duisburg-Ruhrorter Häfen AG and a member of IG Metall since 1949.

Wieczorek was Catholic, married and had two children.

Political functions

Helmut Wieczorek joined the SPD in 1957 . From 1969 to 1980 he was a member of the Council of the City of Duisburg , from 1975 to 1980 1st Mayor of the City of Duisburg. In 1980 he became a member of the Bundestag and in 1982 a member of the executive committee of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1982 to 1994 he was chairman of the SPD in the budget committee , from 1994 to 1998 chairman of the budget committee and from 1998 to 2002 chairman of the defense committee . In 2002 he left the Bundestag.
