criticism

Dealing with former Stasi employees

Lötzsch came under fire several times because of her dealings with former employees of the Ministry for State Security (MfS). So she pleaded u. a. for the tolerance of former Stasi employees in parliaments and ministerial offices, provided that they are elected. The then federal chairman of the Greens , Claudia Roth , accused her of wanting to “sweep the past under the table”.

It was also criticized that her district association in Berlin-Lichtenberg, with her support, organized several panel discussions with former full-time and unofficial employees of the MfS, such as the last foreign espionage chief of the Stasi Werner Großmann . The Bundestag member Wolfgang Wieland (Greens) accused her of not having acted against their historical revisionism during their visit to the " Initiative group for the protection of the social rights of former members of armed organs and the customs administration of the GDR" , but instead presented themselves as " Saint Johanna the Alt - Chekists ”to have staged. Lötzsch responded to criticism of her closeness to the Stasi milieu by pointing out her position as directly elected MP and her husband's biography of the victim. He was imprisoned in 1957 because of his membership in the so-called Schröder-Lucht group and sentenced to three years imprisonment. He served almost two years of the sentence in the Bautzen correctional facility (see also Political Detention (GDR) ). With reference to the fate of her life partner, Lötzsch forbade himself to " defamation " in the Bundestag debate on April 7, 2006 .

Lötzsch portrayed her husband as a victim of the SED state . On March 16, 2010, Die Welt revealed that, according to documents from the Birthler authorities , Lötzsch's husband was an unofficial employee of the Ministry of State Security from 1963 to the mid-1980s Code name "Heinz" reported among other things about colleagues at the East Berlin Academy of Sciences . In a statement, Gesine Lötzsch then stated that she would oppose any attempt to “abuse my husband's fate for transparent campaigns”, but did not address the allegations directly.

"Paths to Communism"

On January 3, 2011, an article by Gesine Lötzsch was published under the heading “Ways to Communism” in the daily newspaper Junge Welt , which led to some controversy in the political debate. The newspaper had asked her to comment on this year's topic at her annual Rosa Luxemburg conference Where, please, is Communism ? Left reformism or revolutionary strategy - ways out of capitalism to write down some thoughts. In her contribution, Gesine Lötzsch dealt with Rosa Luxemburg's theory of revolutionary realpolitik and its discrepancy to Soviet party communism. One passage caught the attention of the media: "We can only find the path to communism if we set out and try it out, whether in the opposition or in the government."

In Union , FDP and SPD contribution sparked sharp criticism. The then CSU General Secretary Alexander Dobrindt accused Lötzsch of positioning himself outside the constitution. For this reason, he demanded nationwide surveillance of the Left Party by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution .

Lötzsch later explained to Spiegel Online : “The left is left-wing socialist , we are not and will not be a communist party. And I'm not going to be a member of the communist platform either . ”With her participation in the Rosa Luxemburg Conference on January 8th, she wanted to“ win over those on the left who consider our party too adapted ”. Instead of her planned participation in a panel discussion with the former RAF terrorist Inge Viett and the chairwoman of the German Communist Party (DKP), Bettina Juergensen , Lötzsch gave a statement at the conference on her statements in which she rejected the cross-party criticism .
