Julius August von Bernuth

Julius August Johann Ernst von Bernuth (born August 22, 1782 in Hamm , † April 8, 1857 in Berlin ) was a German civil servant as well as a district and government councilor.

Life

Julius August was the son of the War and Tax Council at the Märkische War and Domain Chamber in Hamm Jakob von Bernuth (1729–1797) and his wife Klara Theodora Margaretha, née Gerstmann (1747–1818).

His siblings were:

  • Wilhelm Gerhard (1767–1828), War and Tax Council at the War and Domain Chamber in Hamm;
  • Johann Ludwig (1770–1857), councilor at the war and domain chamber in Hamm, later chief finance councilor in Berlin;
  • Fritz (1772-1862);
  • Karl (1774–1843), President of the Prussian Higher Regional Court in Münster;
  • Ernst Friedrich Heinrich August (1779–1847), Higher Regional Judge in Hamm.

Career

Bernuth attended the Hammonense grammar school and then began studying law and camera science at the Friedrich-Alexander University in 1800 . In 1800 he became a member of the Erlangen Westphalia (1794-1809).

On July 25, 1803, he passed an examination in front of the War and Domain Chamber in Hamm, with the result that the General Management immediately hired him as a trainee lawyer and thus skipped the level of chamber auscultator . In 1804 he managed the office on an interim basis as district administrator for the Wetter district. On May 3, 1806, he passed the final exam and was appointed Chamber Assessor under President Ludwig von Vincke . In 1807 he was transferred to the War and Domain Chamber in Minden and in 1808 he was sent by the Gouvernement of the Kingdom of Westphalia as Secretary General of the Prefecture of the Weser Department to Osnabrück and was thus one of the most important officials in the department after Philipp von Pestel . In 1809 he was appointed sub-prefect in Bielefeld , thus succeeding his friend Daniel Heinrich Delius , who later became the district president of Cologne .

In 1813 the Westphalian province became Prussian again and General Friedrich Wilhelm Bülow von Dennewitz appointed him on November 11, 1813 as interim government commissioner in the county of Ravensberg . He later became district administrator and head of the government commission in Bielefeld . In 1816 he was appointed government councilor (official title) | in Aachen and until his retirement he was appointed lecturer in the Ministry of the Interior. In 1831 the king appointed him to the Prussian State Council . In 1848 he resigned from the public service as a real secret councilor of the Ministry of the Interior .

For his work, Bernuth was awarded the Red Eagle Order II. Class and the Royal Prussian Order of St. John .

Bernuth was married to Dorothea Philippine Luise Jochmus (1780-1865) since December 16, 1808. Together they had two sons and a daughter:
