Sassoferrato
Giovanni Battista Salvi , called Sassoferrato (* 25. August 1609 in Sassoferrato , † 8. April 1685 in Rome ) was an Italian painter of the Baroque .
Live and act
Salvi, named after his hometown, came to Rome early on to study the works of Raphael . Later he went to Naples to u. a. to study the work of Annibale Carracci and his circle (especially Guido Reni ). He worked mostly in Rome, where he died on April 8, 1685.

He painted almost exclusively Madonnas , praying and those with the sleeping child. His pictures show an intimate and true, if feeble, sensation and are carefully painted in bright colors. Works by Sassoferrato are represented in many churches and galleries in Italy and in most collections abroad.
