Johann Christoph Hundeshagen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Christoph Hundeshagen (born April 8, 1635 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia , † 1681 in Remda ) was a German logician and philosopher.

Life

Johann Christoph was the son of the Mühlhausen citizen and furrier Hans (Johann) Christoph Hundeshagen (born April 26, 1608 in Mühlhausen; † April 1668 ibid.) And his wife Martha Starke (born April 27, 1600 in Mühlhausen; † December 27, 1667 ibid.). After attending grammar school in his hometown , he moved to Jena University in 1654 . Here he first completed philosophical studies, attending the lectures on moral philosophy with Philipp Horst , on the Hebrew language with Johann Frischmuth , on history with Johann Ernst Gerhard , on mathematics with Erhard Weigel and on physics with Caspar Posner . He then completed theological studies with Johannes Tobias Major and Christian Chemnitz . Animated by Laurentius Blumentrost the Elder , he continued his studies at the University of Helmstedt in 1657 .

Here Balthasar Cellarius , Gerhard Titius (1620–1681), Friedrich Ulrich Calixt , Hermann Conring and Christoph Schrader were his formative teachers. When he returned to Jena, he acquired the academic degree of Magister in Philosophical Sciences in August 1658, in 1662 he became an adjunct of the philosophical faculty in Jena and in 1668 full professor of logic and metaphysics. Hundeshagen became dean of the philosophy faculty of the Salana, in 1671 he became rector of the alma mater and in the same year obtained a licentiate in theology. In 1679 he fell ill with melancholy and was taken to Remda to recuperate, where he died at the age of 46.

Hundeshagen married on November 22, 1670 in Altenburg Catharina Maria Sagittarius (born January 23, 1652 Orlamünde, † May 7, 1678 in Jena), the daughter of the general superintendent of Altenburg Johann Christfried Sagittarius . The marriage resulted in a son and two daughters. The children are known to include the son Johann Christoph Hundeshagen († 1673 in Jena), as well as the daughters Anna Sophia Hundeshagen († February 8, 1672 in Jena) and Catharina Maria Hundeshagen.
