Hinterwörth-Laast is a nature reserve in the nature area 210 " Offenburg Rheinebene " in Baden-Württemberg . In the area there are former river bends, oxbow lakes, alluvial forests and ecologically valuable grassland forms.

The nature reserve consists of two parts and is located on the right bank of the Rhine on the boundaries of the Rheinau districts Freistett , Memprechtshofen and Helmlingen . On a total area of ​​82.4 hectares, it includes in large parts the forest-covered "Hinterwörth" and "Entenfang" basins as well as the old Rhine arm " Hellwasser " and in the small, southern part the alder book forest "Laast", which connects to the main road in the south 36 adjoins.

Flora and fauna

The Hinterwörth-Laast nature reserve consists largely of a typical Rhine floodplain forest with former river loops created by the Rhine and Rench , but a relatively large part is also claimed by the old Rhine arm Hellwasser . The waters and riparian zones serve as a habitat for many different animal and plant species, including rare and threatened species. Many bird species can be found in the alluvial forest, such as the buzzard , the sparrowhawk , the goshawk and a few more such as the gray heron and the rare kingfisher .
