Salmengrund is a nature reserve in the area of ​​the Baden-Württemberg municipalities of Meißenheim and Neuried (Baden) in the Ortenau district .

Characteristics

The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council of September 22, 1995 and has a size of 185.0 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 3.211. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 165287 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

location

The protected area is around 4 kilometers in length directly on the Rhine north of Meißenheim and west of the Ichenheim district of the Neuried community. It is located in the natural area 210 - Offenburg Rhine Plain within the natural spatial main unit 21 - Middle Upper Rhine Lowland and lies entirely in the 3,880 hectare FFH area No. 7512-341 Rhine lowland from Wittenweier to Kehl and in the bird sanctuary (SPA area) No. 7512- 401 Rhine valley Nonnenweier - Kehl .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the area with its characteristic waters, riparian zones and forests as a habitat for numerous animal and plant communities with rare species, some of which are threatened with extinction, as a natural part of the landscape of special character and beauty and as an object for science. In addition, area-specific natural communities including their species (especially waterfowl) are to be preserved and site conditions typical of floodplains and the approval of typical floodplain developments should be restored.
