The Thomasschollen nature reserve is located on the territory of the municipalities of Meißenheim and Schwanau in the Ortenau district in Baden-Württemberg .
The area extends west of the core town of Meißenheim. Not far to the west flows the Rhine and runs the state border with France . The state road L 104 runs to the east .

For Meißenheim and Schwanau, an area of 219.5 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve since February 5, 1996 under the identification number 3.217. These are “ waters, riparian zones, semi- arid grassland and forests typical of the Rhine floodplain .” It is a “natural part of the landscape with a special peculiarity and beauty” and “an object of study for science.” It is about “area-specific natural communities. The protection purpose also corresponds to the restoration of typical floodplain site conditions and the approval of typical floodplain developments. "
