Fernand Lamy

Fernand Lamy (born April 8, 1881 in Chauvigny , † September 15, 1966 in Paris ) was a French conductor, composer and music teacher.

Lamy began his career as a military musician. He was then choirmaster and later conductor at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées , where he worked with the Ballets Russes under Gabriel Astruc and finally director of the Valenciennes Conservatory, where he a. a. founded the Association des Concerts Symphoniques , the Société de Musique de Chambre and the Choral des Dame . His students included u. a. Robert Lannoy and Roberto Benzi .

Lamy was also a guest conductor of various radio orchestras, artistic director of the Confédération Musicale de France and co-founder of the Jeunesses Musicales de France . He wrote a biography of the composer Joseph Guy Ropartz ( Joseph-Guy Ropartz, l'homme et l'œuvre , 1948).
