Alberto Abdala (born April 8, 1920 in Maldonado , † January 13, 1986 ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Education and professional career

Abdala completed his school education in Maldonado. This was followed by studying law and social sciences in Montevideo. There he received his doctorate in 1946 and was admitted to the bar. As a result, he was active from 1947 as a professor at the law and social science faculty of the Universidad de la República . In addition to his extensive teaching activities, he has also written widely acclaimed publications. These include, for example, "Enseñanza Obligatoria de la Democracia" and "Historia del Derecho Romano".

Political career

The lawyer, who belonged to the Partido Colorado and, within this, to Lista 15 , dealt with politics early on. From 1949 to 1951 he worked as a secretary in the Presidencia de la República .

As a result, he took for the Montevideo Department in the 36th and 37th legislative periods in the period from February 14, 1951 to May 17, 1956 and from May 28, 1957 to February 14, 1959 a mandate as a member. Between these two phases as the people's representative in the Cámara de Representantes , he held the post of Interior Minister of Uruguay from May 16, 1956 until his resignation on May 28, 1957. His successor in this position was Héctor Grauert . With this he delivered a tangible argument in parliament on August 29, 1957, which could only be ended by the intervention of other MPs. In the 38th (February 15, 1959 - July 13, 1959; September 23, 1959 - October 17, 1961; December 5, 1961 - February 14, 1963) and the 40th (March 2, 1967 - February 14, 1972) He was a member of the Cámara de Senadores in parliament . Here he held the function of Senate President from 1967 to 1971 and, after the death of President Oscar Gestidos , was Vice President under Jorge Pacheco Areco from December 8, 1967 . Abdala was also Consejero Nacional de Gobierno and at times interim Foreign Minister of Uruguay.
